Normal warband construction consists of 100 points or more. Each miniature has a specific point value depending on its strengths and weaknesses. Each warband may contain any number of a particular miniature unless its card states otherwise. For example you could play with 10 zombies that cost 10 points each in a 100-point battle. There is a limit of 10 (4th Ed.) miniatures per warband except as specified by special abilities such as Minions. No model may be more than 70% of the warband point limit. Huge models and epic versions of stat cards are only legal in the epic format.
Victory goes to the first player to score victory points equal to the warband limit (100 points in a 100-point tournament or 200 points in a 200-point tournament).
There are two ways to score victory points:
1) Eliminate enemy creatures: Players score victory points equal to the cost of each
eliminated model.
2) Occupy an appropriate victory area: At the end of each round, if a player has a
model on one or more appropriate victory areas that player is awarded five
victory points in a 100-point event. Ten victory points are awarded in a 200-point
event. Twenty-five victory points are awarded in a 500-point Epic event.
Typical organized play constructed warband formats are: 100-points, 200-points, and 500-points (epic). There are many other fun formats that we use, too. Here are a few:
+ Vintage - All D&D sets are legal for use.
+ 4th Edition - Only D&D minis that have revised (4th ed.) stat cards are legal for use.
+ Epic - All D&D sets are legal for use. You may use huge models and epic
versions of character stat cards.
+ Highlander - Only (1) of any miniature is legal in warband construction.
+ Good VS Evil - Each player constructs one specified point value warband for
Good and one for Evil. Before each round the warband that you use is
determined randomly and your opponent plays the opposite.
+ Lawful VS Chaotic - Each player constructs one specified point value warband for
Chaotic and one for Lawful. Before each round the warband that you
use is determined randomly and your opponent plays the opposite.
+ Random Troops - Only (1) uncommon miniature and any number of common
miniatures up to the specified point value is legal in warband
construction.
+ Cave of Pain Scenario - May be added to any format. All melee and ranged attacks
deal an additional 5 damage. This damage is of the same type as the
base damage for that attack. As with all bonus damage, this damage is
not doubled on a critical hit.
+ Bounty Scenario - May be added to any format. All eliminated models also score
extra points. +5 points in a 100-point game, +10 points in a 200-point
game and +25 points in a 500-point Epic event. This does not include
troops that have Special Abilities that exclude them such as Beneath
Contempt. In these cases the card text takes precedent.
